Why Basset Rescue?

The general state of the economy, changing life-styles, and moves to condominiums and apartments are some of the reasons for the abundance of abandoned Basset Hounds. And this problem is not specific to Bassets only, but is true of all breeds and mixed breeds. It is for this reason that so many states and cities in the U.S. are now considering breeding bans, mandatory spay and neuter programs and other measures to control the pet population. Individual rescue groups of all breeds, then, serve not only the welfare of the breed, but their own communities as well.

How To Help

There are approximately 40 Basset breed clubs (in the U.S.), some of whom are active in Basset rescue work. There are also a number of statewide rescue groups who have no affiliation with a breed club but share a desire to help our beloved Bassets. Volunteers are always needed for fostering Bassets or securing foster homes, screening prospective homes by telephone, checking fenced yards, transporting the Basset from a shelter to the veterinarian or to a foster home, advertising and marketing skills for publicity and fund raising, and participating at special events. Whether organizing a new group or working with an established group, you can be as active as you choose.

Thank you so much for caring about our efforts for the Bassets, and we hope that you will join us. We look forward to hearing from you.
